Brittany Lott, PhD.

Chemistry Instructor, Research Advisor

Attended: Arkansas State University, University of Memphis
Favorite Science: Physical Chemistry

After graduate school, Brittany taught General and Physical Chemistry at Western Carolina university before moving to Charlotte and coming to Country Day. She loves teaching the dedicated students at Country Day and is excited to get back into the realm of scientific research--computational biochemistry was her research field as a doctoral candidate! At home, Brittany and her husband Alex have three young children and one silly, hairy dog. She loves to play outside, read science fiction, and watch comic book movies.

Lincoln R. Bolin

Class of 2020

Attending: Johns Hopkins University
Always at the forefront, Lincoln lead both the Construction Team and the 3D Printing Team, managing incredibly to balance both the physical assembly and manufacturing of all pieces in addition to being star pitcher of the CCDS Varsity Baseball Team. In addition to furthering his academic passions at Johns Hopkins University, Lincoln will also be continuing his baseball career as a pitcher for the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. Lincoln has a fastball clocked at 88 mph, as well as a solid change up and curveball.
Kyal_edited.jpg
Kyal Htet

Class of 2020

Attending: Yale University
Kyal came to Charlotte Country Day School as a new ninth grader and has taken a variety of science courses throughout her time here. While she's taken many different courses, such as biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, and physiology, she especially enjoys chemistry and physiology. Kyal contributed towards this project by desgning molecules electronically using a software called Fusion360. Outside of class, Kyal enjoys reading and completing crossword puzzles with her friends. In college, Kyal hopes to major in science and subsequently attend medical school.
Kate_edited_edited.jpg
Kate Kosmicki

Class of 2020

Attending: University of Colorado Boulder
Favorite Science: Engineering and Physics
With a background in computer science, Kate joined the R coding team. Despite not taking organic chemistry, Kate took this class due to its relation to her summer internship. Kate worked with Carleigh on producing a code to measure various bond lengths and angles. With no experience in R, they struggled finishing a complete, successful code. Outside of coding, she enjoyed completing the hard New York Times sudoku, talking to Kathryn and taking naps. In college, Kate hopes to major in aerospace engineering.
Kathryn_edited_edited.jpg
Kathryn Leighty

Class of 2020

Attending: Washington University in St. Louis
Favorite Science: Biology
Since coming to Country Day in lower school, Kathryn has enjoyed taking a variety of science courses over the years. For this project, she joined the 3D-priniting and construction team and has made many essential contributions when not doing crosswords or talking to Kate. In college, Kathryn will continue taking STEM courses while on the premed track at Washington University in St. Louis.
Erin_edited_edited.jpg
Erin McCollum

Class of 2020

Attending: Wake Forest University
Favorite Science: Biology
As a lifer at Country Day, Erin joined this research class to tie together what she has learned in previous science classes at the school like biology and chemistry. Erin was part of the design team and has learned a lot through using the Fusion 360 software. When not trying to figure out how to build and edit molecules in Fusion 360, Erin enjoys drawing, traveling, playing softball, and doing trivia/crosswords. In college, Erin hopes to major in biochemistry and molecular biology with hopes to attend medical school.
Connor_edited_edited.jpg
Connor McPhillamy

Class of 2020

Attending: Georgia Institute of Technology
Favorite Science: Organic Chemistry and Computer Science
As a lifer at Country Day, Connor has taken many science classes and enjoys continuing his learning in BioChem. Initially a member of the Coding Team, Connor found his niche later in the year by forming a Website Team. He helped create the mobile website as well as maintain the website throughout the year. When not working on the website, Connor loves trying (and failing) to complete the hard sudokus on the New York Times as well as watching food snapchat stories on Charlotte's phone. In college, Connor hopes to stay in the STEM field by majoring in Computer Science.
Carleigh_edited.jpg
Carleigh Oberkfell

Class of 2020

Attending: Brown University
Carleigh has taken many science classes throughout high school and has now progressed to taking BioChem. As a member of the Coding Team with Kate, Carleigh attempts to code in R with the help of internet forums and kind university professors. When not coding, Carleigh enjoys completing sudokus and napping. In college, Carleigh hopes to stay in the STEM field by majoring in chemical engineering.
Charlotte_edited_edited.jpg
Charlotte Reardon

Class of 2020

Attending: Southern Methodist University
Favorite Science: Chemistry
Charlotte joined the Country Day family her sophomore year. Since stepping on the campus, she has continuing to pursue math and science classes. She has a passion for challenging problems in both of these subjects. She joined the construction team to help 3D print and construct the models for future students to use. Outside of classes, she plays varsity field hockey and varsity lacrosse. Her senior year, she led as a captain in both field hockey and lacrosse. She also helped her team in winning the field hockey state championship. She hopes to continue her love for math and science in college.
Sylver_edited.jpg
Sylver Riddell

Class of 2020

Attending: University of Michigan
Favorite Science: Biology
As a passionate scientist and investigator, Sylver joined the research group as a member of the construction and 3D printing team to apply all she has learned throughout her high school science classes. Though initially struggling with using x-acto knives safely, she quickly became skilled and adept at printing functional groups and assembling protein models. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys playing ice hockey, skiing, and anything music related. In college, Sylver hopes to major in cognitive neuroscience with the ultimate goal of attending medical school.
